Is cupcakes a euphemism for breasts ?

Thursday, July 26, 2007

Made it here safe, 26 hours is far to long on a plane, at least in cattle class.
Have made it to several pubs and pints and real ale and pub food.

Also found out about sea gulling, my life is now richer.

Saturday, July 21, 2007

Where the bloody hell are ya - You too can move to a Australia as a doctor.

Thursday, July 19, 2007

Auckland is between two and three degrees warmer than Sydney today, that is just so wrong.

Wednesday, July 11, 2007

I've had a really annoying cough of late, keeping me up most of last night. So today I went to the chemist and got cough medicine, which may have the unfortunate side of effect of acting as a laxative.

Is it me or if this doesn't work 100 percent am I in trouble?

Monday, July 09, 2007

Cayne was over for the weekend, was great to introduce him to Anna and catch up after what must be two or more years.

Went to Live earth on Saturday, the queues for the beer were a joke - so no booze, the queue for food was an hour so didn't eat a lot. Crowded House were an excellent end to a great but bloody freezing day.

The muppets below us have a console and like to play it loudly, I can't tell you the joy this brings me.

Friday, June 15, 2007

I'm so chuffed, just brought "The Kick Inside" downloaded in maybe a few minutes - felt like less.
Huge kick of nostalgia, it was one of Steph's albums, sort of assume it still is. Weird how things link together. From the album I can see our old house, the record cabinet, the record player. Dads loverly AR4s ( Mum, I still want my speakers back), from there to Christmas and sitting on the couch, I think I always used to sit next to the record player. Hmm, after more than 30 years, I really don't think much has changed (different people worry about food ) , we live in different places, Lisa is still a nazi for getting everyone together for presents, dad still deals, everyone is still happy.

I was going to look up lots of clever links to everything, but, I can't be arsed.

I am hoping I'm wrong but I foresee Carbon trading|offsetting and the rest of the carbon ideas falling from favour when people realise that offsetting does little more than mask the problem.
Carbon initiatives will be seen as a huge mistake in the future as smoke and mirrors.
Anyway here is hoping I'm wrong.
I'm out of my flat, I've given notice and apart from getting it cleaned and moving a few bills around I'm free.

One thing left to go, in the big life stuff.

Friday, June 01, 2007

It's not the fact that most of the paper comes from feeds that pisses me off, it's the fact that the articles that are written by smh journalist are constantly wrong.
How hard is it to count ?

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Okay the UK keynote got Q & A - and it was really good.
Watching the London keynote and it reminded me of a thought I'd have earlier in the day - Google has become Sun, open sourcing | releasing technologies - for the same reason, just with a broader audiences. Possibly it is the son(sorry bad pun)| daughter of Sun - Sun build and delivered TCP/IP* and other lower parts of the stack - Google has built on them and built | building a new layer of tools and building blocks.
Overall very good, if not bloody cold - believe it or not a converted locomotive building is piss cold in the winter. Anyway it did mean it was hard to fall asleep.
I'll look through my notes properly tomorrow and add some more comments.
One thing that I didn't know and looks rather cool is Google gadgets are meant to *just* work as Dashboard Widgets.

I'm somewhat interested to see if I can get gears to let dashboard widgets work off line, I can think of a few apps /widgets that would benefit.

http://googledeveloperday2007-au.blogspot.com/
Can you have an umbrella mapplet that will let you have several nested mapplets ( google thinks so ).

What about dynamically creating mapplets, I suppose this doesn't make sense.
Gears looks like a great idea, already think I can see several uses for it. However I need to read how the security works, how do you stop other sites accessing your data ? Also how do you stop malice sites filling the local store with rubbish data, are there size limits imposed on a url or can I download an HD DVD as required offline content.

Things to think about.

This is one of the most usable sites I've been to in a long time - not the nicest site to have to visit - but you can't win them all.

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

I've said sorry to Melvin Bragg for pausing his pod cast to talk to someone before.
What is the song Charlie about ?

It's from the Dizrythmia Album by Split Enz.

Wikipedia has forsaken me or at least it didn't know the answer.

I really need to start blogging this stuff when I think of it. I brought a 50mm lens while I was in SFO, err I was in SFO for JavaOne.

Anyway back to the point I brought a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 and it has been wonderful - I'd forgotten that shutter speeds faster than 500 ms existed.

I think the lens may if anything let in too much light :|

It's loverly, have a look on flickr ( Also pictures of SFO and the Moo party ) there are some pictures of Gordon's Bay Anna and I took the day I got back.
How good was the China MotoGP, just finished watching it - hoping the rest of the season is that good.

It would be nice if the other Ducati and Yamaha were up the front as well, but it was nice to see Hopkins up there in a solid 3rd place - bring on France tomorrow.

My only dislike of watching the MotoGP is wondering what is going to happen - will my connect last, will it bomb out, will the audio get out of sync with the video.

It would be nice if you could book dedicated blocks of bandwidth - Sunday night from 22:00 for 3 hours. Shit I'd even pay, I mean I know I've signed up for a 24 Mbps connection and I only want 1/24th of that guaranteed for 3 hours - but still I'd pay.

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Oh god, someone on the news has just said " how much content do we really need "
this is to do with science classes.
None, just put them in front of fox news I'm sure they'll learn everything they need. For fucks sake in another generation people wont be able to shit for themselves.
Blair out, Brown in.
Chirac out, Sarkozy in.
Bush out, who in ?
Howard out - October elections apparently.
Helen Clark - We'll find out next year, not really that important in the grand scheme of things, much like Australia. However France and England will be interesting to watch over the upcoming months and years.
Sarkozy wasn't my preferred choice, however having read a brilliant article in economist I'm interested to see how he goes. France is in desperate need or reform and it will be painful.
Brown could be the best thing for Britain in a long while, but will need to move outside of the Iraq Halo and hope there are still people interested in values and not media created spin.
Bush out, please got not Hilary, then again the next leader of the US will not be a president, they will be the first. The first black or the first woman president.
Howard - Rudd is looking better and has managed not the implode, it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
New Zealand is to far out and god only knows if they have moved forward enough to have a credible opposition.

Monday, April 30, 2007

watched Departed and Little Miss Sunshine over the weekend. Both were great, I'd recommend either. Although I'm still not one for cringing movies, which little Ms Sunshine is a bit.

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

wow, we have had 150 mls of rain here ( Randwick ) in the last 48 hours.

Monday, April 23, 2007

Plasma Pong is amazing, great eye candy and very addictive.

Sunday, April 22, 2007

Anyone want a subscription to motogp.com, I've paid for a high def package - 100 Euros, can I use it, no, do they respond to emails no, out of 3 races and 3 qualifiers how many have a been able to watch ?
1 high dev race ( no qualifying - even at 200 K it was unwatchable )
1 high dev qualifier ( yesterday )

Today I can't even log into the site, so 30 minutes into a 45 minute race I'm sitting here trying not to throw my laptop across the room.

The ONLY thing I get for my hundred Euros over a random punter rocking up to the site is the live coverage and interviews with the riders. I am NOT paying 100 fucking Euros for no tech support nor for rider fucking interviews that every other bike website covers as quick or sometimes quicker.

So I'm off to find the race on television.

Saturday, April 21, 2007

Why hasn't google brought Encyclopaedia Britannica ?

Saturday, April 07, 2007

We have Mac's at our local bottle shops. How wonderful, you can not go passed a great New Zealand beer like Mac's.
Currently drinking a Sassy Red, very yummy.

Thursday, March 01, 2007

I think my Spectrum is still at mum and dads somewhere, ahhh Jet Pac, Escape and of course defender. I have no idea how many hours I spent typing games from the the weekly mag into that thing.
Spectrum widget for the mac, read about it here, get it here

Monday, February 19, 2007

Okay I have been trying to put this off for a while. I'm now use to the resolution of my mac and its time to consider a move to a 30.
1Kg of jellybeans in 4 days cannot be good for you :|

Sunday, February 18, 2007

Managed to finish A Brave New World, wonderful book, highly recommend everyone reads it, I throughly enjoyed it.

Starting White Teeth next, I really am several years behind everyone in terms of reading material.
This game is great, kind of disturbing but fun. My high score is 1799.96.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Ecofoot, I suck - we need 2.9 planets if everyone acts like me. So the rest of you need to walk everywhere and not eat or buy anything.
Thank you.

Saturday, February 10, 2007

So, like there is Java and .Net and there are Jedi and Sith. There is the good and virtuous, all knowing and there is the evil, arrogant know it alls.

So like are there a bunch of Jedi and Sith running round just doing the job, not really caring about the whole good - evil bit of it. More interested in the most efficient way of getting craft out of swamps and carving people in two with a sabre.

A bit random, a bit geeky.
Adobe release pdf. Erm I'm not sure how I save everything as pdf, but I'm sure it is good news.
Drugs and Spiders.

Friday, February 09, 2007

Assuming I forgot to mention, I brought Holly Throsby's Under the Town, a bit of a random itunes purchase after downloading a free song. It's a sporadic listen, although whenever I put it on I can't remember why I don't listen to it more often.
Incremental - going mad bit by bit.

Alcohol is a friend who starts out as a caring friend and about 3 am turns into a 6 foot 8 skin head who kicks the crap out of you.

Sunday, February 04, 2007

Since buying a car I've started listening to the radio again.
In an attempt to find a replacement for bfm I've been bouncing round the dial a little and I've found fbi and 2ser.
Both are great, as a substitute for the sunday jazz show, it turns out there is a wounder show on the ABC Classic FM on both days of the weekend - huzzah!

Saturday, February 03, 2007

Adium version 1.0 has been released and amazingly it looks even more polished, which is just insane.

Take a highly polished thing, that you can't polish anymore, then, well polish it more, wonderful.

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

We went to Lost and Found Orchestra, well bloody ages ago. We both really liked it, I was somewhat unsure about it, but it was wonderful.
I brought Pragmatic Version Control Using Subversion, 2nd Edition on Richard's recommendation. Have only had a quick flick at it but is looking like a great buy.

On the Richard book front, I finished Penny Arcade Volume 2: Epic Legends of the Magic Sword Kings! a present that turned up over Christmas, a great book.

I love Tycho and Gabe, I don't have anywhere near enough time to play games now - not because I'm all busy with work and to old for life, but because I'm disorganized.
Anyway, the book was great, interesting to see how there style has changed since 2001 and some of the thoughts behind the comics.

Thursday, January 18, 2007

cool.
I've brought a car.
It's a very boring Holden Astra.
It's my first vehicle in over 8 years and first car in god knows how long - It's also the first car I've ever brought new and the first automatic I've ever brought.
I can also run it on ethanol, which is wonderful. If I run low on booze I can siphon the car or equally i can run it on vodka if I can get to a gas station.

Sunday, January 14, 2007

We have been using Bill Granger's new book Everyday, well pretty much everyday for the last two weeks, its great.

It lovely and the recipes, so far, have been piss easy. My only concern is that Bill seems to be everywhere at the moment and I wonder if there will be a backlash against him, it would be a shame, his books are wonderful.

If you don't have it, you really should buy it.
Elephunk by the Black Eyed Peas, its pretty lack luster - this is why you can't resell electronically brought music.
Then again maybe it will get better with some more listening.

Greatest Hits Vol. 1 by Dragon, its downloading now so not really sure, it has the song I want so one would assume I'm going to enjoy it.

Monday, January 08, 2007

Watched Kenny last night, not at all what I expected, bloody good though and lots and lots of poo humour - excellent. - abc review.

Saturday, January 06, 2007

How cool is this.
Well I've started reading again, we'll see how long it lasts this time before there is yet another pile of half finish books next to the bed and an ever growing collection of new books on the floor.

I've just finish Nick Hornby's The Complete Polysyllabic Spree, I liked it. Not least of all because he says and does things I do and agree with, such as, buying more books than you will every get round to reading and not reading books because they are literary, but because you enjoy them - nothing wrong with a bit of Dan Brown every now and then.

I've started Brave New World by Aldous Huxley on the plane home from Queensland. It was only an hour so not a lot of reading, rather a lot skipped though as the introduction seems to give an overview of the entire story.

Thursday, January 04, 2007

So new year, had a few thoughts, one is too use blog more, now with the wonderful labels.
I wonder how many books you have to buy before a free
trip.

Friday, December 15, 2006

Thursday, December 07, 2006

Oh god, I live in the same country as this woman and they want to be a credible opposition, but can't even unite one day after a leader change. Howard will be in until he can't walk or until either Labour or the greens get there shit together.

Tuesday, December 05, 2006

About bloody time,
really does make rather a lot of sense - *Sigh* wonder how long we have to wait.
Of course we can bring our mighty air force to any union -mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Sunday, December 03, 2006

Just brought and watched the world's fastest indian, wonderful.

Saturday, December 02, 2006

My lovely new mac is here and I have got used to the extra screen real estate disturbingly quickly. I've spent all day rebuilding the PowerBook, well a reinstall and applying updates and installing a few of the basics like growl, Adium and quicksilver.

My god the screen is small, sigh.

I need to sort out disk space, I only went for the 100 GB and I'm through two thirds of it already *sigh*.

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

*sob* they are here at last, now, how to pay for it.

Thursday, October 19, 2006

Intelligentsia - what a wanker

Stubble Static : The noise stubble makes when your phone rubs against your face.

Friday, September 08, 2006

This is great.
Bloody hell, Peter Brock has been killed!

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

Okay, I'm back from Laos - It was great, more later ( Photos being uploaded to Flickr as I type).

Went to Gomez lastnight, it was fucking awesome - they were so not what I expected, for one there was thousands of them, okay 7 or something and they all looked normal - Not all "we are cool cos we are in an excellent band".

Oh and on a "funny, but incredible bad taste", bring you this.

Monday, July 03, 2006

Saw Paradise Now over the weekend, excellent movie, well worth a watch - Aeon Flux, however, is most definitely not.

Saturday, June 24, 2006

My god, something good out of the Sydney morning herald, what next ?

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

Brought a tagine and a great Moroccan cookbook over the weekend. So far I have learnt the following:

a) Tagines change temperature slowly compared to a gas hob, don't turn them up and leave them - they make a mess.

b) Pay attention to measurements when it comes to mixing spices, to much chili IS a bad thing.

The cookbook is made in morocco, brilliant book, even if you don't want to make any of the recipe's, wonderful photography.

Different availability on itunes shits me, as does incomplete album collections.
Would you buy paint from someone who can only supply 4 out of 6 colours or 2 out of 16.
Media companies need to move on, there will always be those that don't pay, you should never impede those that are willing to, nor those that are shopping via trusted medium.
Media Whores: Jono et al.
Neither Tim no Al Gore invented the internet, get over it.

Friday, May 05, 2006

Aaaaaaaagh, I switched on the telly. Better homes and gardens.
Apparently, you need 4 levels of pillows in 6 different colours.
For fucks sake, they were telling people how to make a bed, puh lease.

Waaaaaaa, they are now talking about sandpaper, who the fuck doesn't
understand the difference between the different types, or if you don't
know which ask when you buy.

fuck me, I swear people will be told how to wipe there arse with, of course,
low cost MDF.

wa wa wa
Yoda will always be cool.

ok so went to buy some pixies off itunes and they took me to the US store - HELLO - where the fuck do you think I am ?

ok, deep breath.

AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE ONE FUCKING ALBUM I WANT, sluts, everyone in and associated with the music industry are cheap vapid whores.

Hi, I don't want to pirate some cheap ass bullshit version of your music, I'd quite like to download it from some niffty slick looking interface that JUST WORKS. Of course it wont matter what part of the world I'm in, not unless you're trying to bend me over and butt fuck me for wanting to buy YOUR music, no of course not.

It must be a geo-political thing, John Howard really has a thing against only one Pixies album. Doolittle, you will here ol' John say, was piss poor and not worth it, therefore I decree it shall not be available online in Oz.

fuckers, you are all fuckers, everyone of you music industry leach bastards.

Saturday, April 29, 2006

If spent anywhere near the amount of time doing the things I want to do instead of panicking about not doing them, I'd get them done :|

Went to the Archibald last weekend, haven't been to a gallery for far to long, the exhibition was brilliant. Grant insisted we get there by 10 otherwise it would be to busy.

We were, it was, why do people turn in complete fucking morons in galleries ? If I'm standing in front of a piece, DON'T WALK IN FRONT OF ME THEN STOP AND LOOK AT IT - FUCKERS.

See yet another reason why I should be allowed a gun, Darwinism just isn't effective enough.

We also popped downstairs and had a look at some photographic exhibition. A couple of things stood out.

1. I need glasses or galleries really need to use a much bigger font for the description of photographs.

2. Lots of people are using digital cameras.

3. If it's art you don't need to have crisp colours, focus or any composition.

People are also manipulating digital images with photoshop and the like. I'm not sure I agree with this, it seems a little to much like cheating.

Oh, I've brought a new lens for my camera, it's another idiot proof Nikon 55-200mm, went down to Clovelly and had a bit of a play with it after the gallery last weekend - I spent most of my time hard against 55 and wanting to change back to my normal lens - pah.

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Where the fuck do I live ?

Who the fuck has job sites that you HAVE TO REGISTER BEFORE USING ?

Australia does, its jobs.com.au

Guess what it doesn't work on Safari.

Fucking winners, I hope it's some kind of very bad joke.

Sunday, April 09, 2006

The word is spreading, mwa mwa mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Tuesday, April 04, 2006

How is cool is this

Saturday, March 18, 2006

Television advertisers must assume Australians to be inherently stupid, the advertising for all the shite american programmes that gets pumped into the televisions has phrases such as "a twist you will never see coming" or " you wouldn't have expected".

Is it because the Oz public are so thick or the story lines so ludicrous ?
Bah !

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Amazon get into Mass storage, check it. Hmmm I wonder if google is still going to bring out the gdrive and how it will differ from the amazon service ?

Tuesday, March 07, 2006

Rock on, blogger widget by google - as well as google search widget and a gmail widget - get them here.

gotta love google and apple.

Monday, February 27, 2006

And from Ash this, just makse you think of goat cx, really - just wrong.
Still I guess it works, you don't have to pay for a nanny for your kids
Nick Cave and a bottle Scotch, does IT get any better after a shitty day at work.

No.

Monday, January 30, 2006

Google earth for real computers is out . Ya ya ya ya ya ya.

Also I'm trialing Blue Phone Elite, seems pretty cool and works with my new phone - a Sony Ericsson v600i - huzzah ! The only thing it is missing is routing the call through the computer speakers and mic, that would mean my phone can just stay in my bag at work.

Thursday, January 26, 2006

House is the happiest music on the plant and fuck me if Nice 'n' Urlich aren't the best examples of this.
Really need to find out when they are playing next, It would be good if they could tie it in with some other reason for me being back in NZ ;)

Thursday, January 19, 2006

I've just spent 2 hours looking for my camera battery charger only to find that it was still in the fucking suitcase. grunting noises can not even begin to describe my disgust - but let me try nergh baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Mwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Sometimes I just feel so articulate.
iTunes is worse than crack, ok so I've never had track, but itunes is robbing me of all my money.

Sunday, January 15, 2006

People are all inherently fuck wits, example.

Killing people for eating animals ranks up there with killing people for supporting abortion.

It is disturbingly flawed.

I understand not eating meat and being pro-life. However to kill for either is stupidity in the extreme.

What next, do we all have to go to the lengths of the suicide bomber and the Israeli Jet, just to get our point across ?

Muppets, complete fucking Muppets.
Wonderful advert, watch it now, funny and takes the piss out of all the stupid things Australians have done over the last year.

Monday, January 09, 2006

Hmmmm if ya going to go clubbing - go in Auckland, Sydney is a bunch of arse.
Drunk fuckers more interested in getting trashed, fighting and what each other is wearing than the music, really just sooooooooo suburban - fuckers. Bridge and Tunnel as our New York friends would say.

Wednesday, January 04, 2006

Happy New year.

I've become Dilbert, I'm not happy about it.

If you think the water you put in the freezer several hours ago is still there, it probably is - Doh.

Monday, December 12, 2005

Public blogging is arse. Not all you want to share is public.

Pah!
Other stuff -
delicious, not sure if I like this or no - the Flickr thing is cool, being a corp not so sure.
This I dont like.
Ya ya Sydney is such a great place.

Tuesday, December 06, 2005

A some what scary forecast for Apple freaks at zdnet blogs.
So went and saw Jamiroquai on Saturday, really liked it - haven't been to a concert in bloody ages, did manage a live gig the other night. Although I had been drinking for bloody ages before hand so may not really count, though it was also great.
Barefoot bowls on Sunday and a pub quiz tonight, pub quizzes aren't as crap as I thought.
Cayne found the most amazing online radio err type thing check it out - it's Licioustasticorama, haven't decided if orama is a bit much, oh well.

Monday, November 28, 2005

So what is a below average Apple ad on TV, its a Microsoft ad. Poor, poor, poor - I mean how much bloody money do you need to come up with a good advert.
video ipod and a telly, such a fucking cool idea - nice.
